Paris is determined to become the most environmentally conscious city. It is going to double its cycling lanes by 2020. The city will be turned to the world’s bike capital under the leadership of its socialist mayor.
Paris is a visitor’s paradise and what better way to tour the city than on bikes. A budget of 150 million-euros has been planned to increase safe bike lanes. At present bike lanes cover 700 kilometers (435 miles) but the new project will add another 700 kilometers to the already existing one, adding to a total 1400 kilometers of bike lane in the city by 2020.
This sustainable practice will definitely beat environmental pollution, creating greater consciousness among people and certainly increasing the number of healthy people in Paris.
The lanes will triple the number of journey’s made on bike from 5 per cent to 15 per cent. Cycling lanes will be protected in major avenues which include banks of the Seine separated from the traffic.
The city will also have two way cycling lanes on smaller roads where speed limit for motorists will be not more than 30km/mh. The city will add some 10,000 bike parking space.
Parisians are being encouraged to learn cycling and crash courses are providing serious and quick solutions for aspiring bikers.
Bike rental schemes are making quite a market in Paris. People are subscribing in huge numbers. A company revealed that it received 40 million individual rentals at the onset of 2015.
The city will introduce electric bikes for the hillier parts like Montmartre.
