World’s most walkable city announced a record-breaking year for 2014 in terms of events secured for the future. 72 international conventions and 341 corporate meetings and incentive leads were added to the list of events taking place in the years to come, which makes 2014 the fourth consecutive record year in terms of bid and lead wins.
This city is Copenhagen. Danish capital is not only the world’s most walkable city but also one of the most efficient in the world as well as the world’s most livable city in 2014 according to Monocle magazine.
Copenhagen CVB said that a record number of both international conventions and corporate events have chosen the city to be their host city, underlining the Danish capital's position as a world-class meetings destination.
Among the congress wins are the prestigious Women Deliver 2016, a conference organised to bring into focus the rights, health, and well-being of girls and women around the world. Denmark is known as a strong advocate of women’s and girls’ rights and the conference brings together over 5,000 attendees ranging from high profile First Ladies such as HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Hilary Clinton, to impoverished midwifes from Bangladesh.
Another congress secured was the World Hydrogen Energy Congress 2020, WHEC, bringing 1,500 delegates to the world’s most well-known conference in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cells.
The 27th Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) 2017 is also on the list of congresses won in 2014. ISTB is expected to attract 2,500 doctors, scientists and exhibitors to Copenhagen over the course of four days.
The increase in won bids and leads from 2013’s 57 and 271 respectively, equals an increase of 26 per cent. This record-breaking result is ascribable to the close cooperation between Wonderful Copenhagen CVB, the partners in Meetingplace Wonderful Copenhagen and VisitDenmark.
In total the 72 congresses and 341 meetings and incentive leads represents more than 367.000 nights.
2014 was also record-breaking in terms of room nights and airport traffic with 9 million commercial room nights and 25,6 million airport passengers.
