Exhibition in Brest Fortress marks World War One centenary

The exhibition marking the 100th anniversary from the start of World War One opened at the Defense Museum of the Brest Fortress on 1 August.

The joint project of the Brest Fortress Hero Memorial and the Kaliningrad Oblast History and Art Museum united two exhibitions: Brest Litovsk Fortress. Great European War and World War One. Epoch. People. Fates. The Belarusian part of the project has featured materials from the funds of the memorial complex. They include photos, cards, household items and personal things of the officers of the garrison that was deployed at the Brest Litovsk Fortress in 1914-1915. Over 50 exhibits are on the display.

The Russian part of the exposition is represented by 12 sketch-boards telling about the brightest stages, events and heroes of WWI. The exposition alsob includes the funds of the museum, documents from the Military and History Archive in Saint Petersburg which has provided up to 100 unique photos from the WWI times.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Consulate General of Russia in Brest, the personnel of the Brest Fortress Hero Memorial, museum visitors. The exhibition will stay open till the end of the year.
