BEVERLY HILLS, CA/JERUSALEM—Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts has signed the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills and opened the Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem.
Waldorf Astoria hosted a signing event at The Beverly Hilton that was attended by Mad Men’sChristina Hendricks; singer Natalie Cole; BenyAlagem, owner, Beverly Hilton and Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills; Chris Nassetta, CEO, Hilton Worldwide; Lilli Bosse, Mayor of Beverly Hills; John Vanderslice, global head of Hilton Luxury Brands; Pierre-Yves Rochon; Angelique Soave; Christine Chiu; and DJ Kiss.
The Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills is the result of a partnership between a private investor group led by Alagem Capital Group and clients of Guggenheim Partners. The brand plans to open the new Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in 2017. Located adjacent to The Beverly Hilton on the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards in Beverly Hills, the 12-story, 170-room luxury hotel will be the brand’s first new build on the West Coast.
The hotel will feature a triple-height lobby with a contemporary Art Deco design, the signature Waldorf Astoria clock, hand-painted murals of California landscapes and custom chandeliers. Each of the 170 guestrooms will feature floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto oversized private balconies, furnished and landscaped designed to create a Beverly Hills Lanai that brings the outdoors inside. On the third level, Villa Suites will open onto manicured private garden terraces. The rooftop pool deck will include landscaping, VIP cabanas, lounge areas and a swimming pool specifically for hotel guests.
The hotel will also house approximately 6,300 sq. ft. of indoor meeting and special events space, state-of-the-art technology offerings and a ground-level outdoor dining terrace and flexible open-air space.
Pierre-Yves Rochon Inc. (PYR) of Paris and Chicago has been tapped for the design. Design elements will include richly upholstered furniture, custom Strass crystal chandeliers, lacquered sycamore millwork, Lalique installations as well as a curated art program throughout hotel.
To create a cohesive architectural design inside and out, Gensler and PYR, joined by their parent company Perkins+Will, co-designed the exterior of Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. Curving white stone and intricate ornamentation signify the hotel's clean, contemporary design which draws its inspiration from the rich history of California's Streamlined Moderne style.
The Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem is set within a uniquely preserved ottoman façade located within walking distance of the walls of the Old City and the famous Jaffa Gate. The hotel adjoins Jerusalem’s upscale shopping center, Mamilla, and overlooks Independence Park.
Blending Greco-Roman, Gothic and Ottoman architecture, the hotel features 226 guestrooms and suites spread over ten floors, with many overlooking the city and park. Dining choices include a French brasserie and a gourmet Italian restaurant. Expected to open in 2015, two indoor lap pools, two gyms and two wet and dry saunas will be among the recreational facilities available. Additionally, a boutique spa will be offered.
