Turkey´s Foreign Ministry has received more than 833,000 “e-Visa” applications and earned US$10.7 million from tourists hoping to travel to Turkey since launching a new online visa system in April 2013.
According to the data from Turkey's Foreign Ministry, the country has issued 712,312 e-visas – an average of 2,600 visas per day.
The e-visa system enables foreign nationals to obtain a Turkish visa online and thereby avoid having to wait in queues at Turkish embassies, consulates or border crossings.
The largest visa applicants came from Iraq, followed by the UK and US.
Applicants obtain their visa electronically after entering required information and making a payment by credit card online.
The Foreign Ministry says on its website that anyone arriving in Turkey after April 10, 2014, will need to obtain a visa before arrival.Source: AA
