LOS ANGELES—Trump Hotel Collection has forged a partnership with LSH Barra S.A. that will result in the development of the Trump Hotel Rio de Janeiro. The company announced the deal here at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS).
The 13-story, 171-guestroom Trump Rio will be the brand's first property in South America and is slated to open in 2016, prior to the Summer Olympics in Brazil. The waterfront hotel will be located in the city's posh Jardim Oceanico subdistrict of the Bara da Tijuca.
The property will include an architectural concept by WATG, interiors by Rockwell Group and landscape architecture by Witkin-Hults Design Group.
Donald Trump Jr., EVP, development and acquisitions of Trump Hotel Collection, told Hotel Business, "You have a market with a lot of successful people and it is starved for luxury [hotels]. You see lot of opulence and wealth, but it always felt lacking [in luxury product] so it's a perfect opportunity for us. We want to incorporate the lifestyle aspect of Brazil, which is that laid back beach aspect, with our brand."
