Friday
16th August 2013. Following recent events in Egypt,
we are continuing to monitor the situation in Cairo and other
locations, working in close collaboration with the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office (FCO).
The FCO travel advice remains unchanged, with the Red Sea tourist area including Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada unaffected and operating as normal, bar an evening curfew in Sharm el Sheikh that took place and was observed on 14th August 2013. We have received confirmation that this was a one-off occurrence and that the curfew has since been lifted for the resort.
Our experienced teams on the ground have confirmed that no tourist areas have been further impacted and that our customers continue to enjoy these popular Red Sea resorts, which are a considerable distance from Cairo (400 km/8 hours).
While Thomas Cook can confirm that it has cancelled its excursions from the Red Sea resorts to Cairo, Luxor, Moses Mountain and St Catherine’s Monastery, some excursions will now take place within the perimeter of Sharm el Sheikh. These include boat and diving excursions, quads and city tours.
As we will continue to operate our flying and holiday programme to Red Sea destinations, normal booking conditions apply should any customer wish to amend or cancel.
Customers who have booked to travel to Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor with Thomas Cook, or any of its companies and brands, should call 0844 800 7887 or visit their travel agent to discuss their arrangements.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office are constantly reviewing their policy and updates can be found on their website www.fco.gov.uk (www.dfa.ie for customers from the Republic of Ireland). Any further updates will be posted on this website accordingly.
