STAR ALLIANCE RELEASES FIRST OFFICIAL IMAGES OF NEW LOS ANGELES LOUNGE

Star Alliance has released the first official impressions of its new Los Angeles lounge, which will open later this year at the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Designed by global architectural firm Gensler, the lounge is inspired by a contemporary interpretation of modernist L.A. architecture of the 1950s and 1960s. This concept underlines the new guidelines for Star Alliance branded lounges, which are based on better meeting the evolving needs of today’s traveller while at the same time introducing a unique local flavour in each location. For example, black and white photos, inspired by L.A. and shot by renowned photographers, will underline the Alliance’s corporate colours. In addition, a collection of objects linked to L.A. and Southern California will also be on display, sparking the curiosity of locals and guests alike.

As can be seen from the images, the lounge incorporates defined spaces to suit passenger needs ranging from social gatherings around the bar to quiet time in the library. The lounge will have two distinct areas, one for the exclusive use of customers travelling in First Class and a larger section for Business Class and Star Alliance Gold passengers.

A unique feature of this lounge is the open air terrace where guests can relax beside a cosy fireplace by night, or by a water feature while enjoying views to the Hollywood hills under the Californian sunshine by day.

Earlier this year, Star Alliance launched the first of its new generation of lounges in Buenos Aires Ezeiza Airport. The feedback received so far indicates a very high level of customer satisfaction. Many guests have commented on the comfortable and locally inspired surroundings, modern facilities and friendly staff which make for a unique and memorable airport experience.

Member carrier Air New Zealand has been appointed to develop and manage the Alliance’s new lounge at Los Angeles International Airport, which is part of the expansion of the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Construction of the new lounge is expected to be completed in July 2013. Customers will be able to make use of the facility later in the year, once the terminal extension has been completed and the existing Star Alliance Lounge (opened in 2007) has been closed.
In total, eight Star Alliance member carriers operate out of the Tom Bradley Terminal – ANA, Asiana Airlines, EVA Air, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, SWISS, THAI and Turkish Airlines. Air New Zealand plans to move to the terminal in mid-2014, at which stage its Koru Lounge in Terminal 2 will close.

In addition to the lounge in the Tom Bradley terminal, Star Alliance member carriers offer the following lounge facilities at LAX International Airport:

Terminal 1     US Airways Club
Terminal 2     Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge,
Air New Zealand Koru Lounge (until mid-2014)
Terminal 6     United Club
Terminal 7     United Club and United International First Class Lounge

Lounge access is one of the key benefits offered to Star Alliance Gold, First and Business class customers, who presently have access to more than 1,000 lounges across the Alliances global network.
