In 2020,
the number of international tourist arrivals worldwide is forecast to
reach nearly 1.4bn and 1.8 by 2030.
In 1980,
international tourist arrivals to Europe totalled 177mn;
in 2010 this
number reached 475mn and
is forecast to increase to 744mn by 2030.
However, Europe’s market share of international tourist arrivals
worldwide was 64% in 1980, 51% in 2010 and is forecast
to decline to 41% by 2030.
The
largest source market for international tourist arrivals to European
countries is Europe itself with a share of approximately 88% of
international tourist arrivals. Non-European countries contribute
only 12% of the market share.
