According to the trivago Hotel Price Index
(tHPI) reported monthly by hotel comparison website www.trivago.co.uk, hotel
prices have decreased by an average of 26 per cent in Istanbul this month.

this month, following protests which began in the city on 28th May and have yet
to be resolved. One night during July will cost an average of £93, compared to
£125 during June. Prices have also decreased by 15 per cent year-on-year, with
one night in July 2012 costing an average of £110. Low room rates are abnormal
for this time of year, suggesting hoteliers have dropped their prices in order
to encourage tourists to continue visiting the city.
Although there is no significant change in hotel prices inAnkara ,
where protests also occurred during June, prices in some of the unaffected
tourist resorts have decreased year-on-year. Hotel prices in Antalya and Marmaris, two costal destinations
popular amongst British holidaymakers, have decreased by 24 per cent and 14 per
cent respectively in comparison to July 2012. One night this month will cost an
average of £74 in Antalya
and £77 in Marmaris, compared to £98 and £90 respectively this time last year.
Moreover, none of the Turkish destinations in theMediterranean is listed in the top
50 best Mediterranean beach destinations.
Greece toped the listing with the islands of Santorini and Crete are clear
favourites, with Santorini’s Imerovigli and Fira occupying the top two spots,
followed by Crete’s Chania and Rethymnon in positions four and five. Italy is another highly-rated destination, with
the town of Capri
taking third place. Five Spanish destinations feature in the top twenty, the
highest ranked being Llanes at position eight.

Not so long ago, in 2009, the popular holiday resort Belek on the Turkish Riviera had ranked as the best. In 2013, the highest rating for a Turkish destination is for Alanya which scored 75.50% and is at position # 56.
