easyJet reports eDreams to regulators for anti-consumer practices

easyJet has reported online travel agent eDreams to the OFT, CAA and Which? following concerns that hundreds of thousands of UK consumers are paying more than they need to for easyJet flights. The eDreams website dupes consumers into paying more by illegally advertising headline prices which are lower than the final price. Both a service fee and payment fee, for both debit cards and credit cards, is added later in the booking process therefore the prices as advertised are unachievable. Customers are paying more than they need to for flights and for card payments.
Peter Duffy, Marketing Director of easyJet commented:
"easyJet wants to ensure all of its passengers are getting value for money. In recent years we have worked hard to simplify the booking process and ensure our pricing is transparent. The activity of eDreams means that we estimate around one million easyJet passengers are being duped into paying too much.
"The eDreams website has no authorisation to ‘screen scrape’ in order to sell easyJet flights and the way they present their prices is wrong and misleads consumers. This is why we have reported their activity to the regulators. We take very seriously any activity of this kind and as such, we have submitted a complaint to the regulators."

eDreams’ misleading and non-transparent pricing techniques in their advertising and website booking process are in breach of Consumer laws such as the Consumer Rights Directive (CRD); Consumer Protection Regulations (CPR); and Air Services Regulations (ASR). As the website operates across Europe we will also contact the relevant European regulators in addition to the British regulators we are already in contact with.
