The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) welcomed the inaugural flight on 6 August 2026 at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Flight 8B381 arrived from Jakarta with 174 Indonesian passengers and operated at full capacity.
The first flight also carried H.E. Mr. Hari Prabowo, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Thailand. TAT representatives, TransNusa Airlines executives, airport officials and tourism partners welcomed the passengers through a traditional Thai reception.
New route adds more than 130,000 seats
The Jakarta–Bangkok service uses a 174-seat Airbus A320-200 aircraft. The airline operates 14 flights per week, providing around 2,500 inbound seats each week and more than 130,000 seats each year.
Flights leave Jakarta at 08:20 and 16:40. They arrive in Bangkok at 11:45 and 19:55. Meanwhile, return flights depart Bangkok at 12:30 and 20:40, arriving in Jakarta at 16:10 and 00:20.
Therefore, the new connection improves access between two important Southeast Asian business and tourism hubs. It also gives Indonesian travellers more options to visit Bangkok for leisure, culture and lifestyle experiences.
Thailand targets Indonesian travel demand
Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said the new service supports TAT’s Airline Focus strategy. In addition, it contributes to the Thai Government’s Ease of Travelling policy by improving regional air links.
“The new service reflects TAT’s Airline Focus strategy and supports the Thai Government’s Ease of Travelling policy by expanding air connectivity, making journeys within Southeast Asia more convenient. The additional capacity will help attract quality Indonesian travellers, particularly independent travellers, Muslim families and millennials, while advancing ‘Healing is the New Luxury’ through Thailand’s food, culture, wellness and diverse destination experiences.”
The new flights also respond to growing demand from Indonesian travellers. Thailand continues to attract visitors through its cuisine, shopping experiences, cultural attractions, wellness products and beaches.
From 1 January to 2 August 2026, Thailand welcomed 378,881 Indonesian visitors. They stayed for an average of six days. Furthermore, 85% travelled independently and 53% were repeat visitors.
Bangkok, Songkhla, Chon Buri, Phuket and Krabi remained the leading destinations for Indonesian travellers. Their preferred activities included Thai dining, historical attractions, community-based tourism, spa experiences and beach activities.
Further cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia
The launch follows the Memorandums of Understanding that TAT signed with TransNusa Airlines and Traveloka on 4 August 2026. The agreements focus on destination marketing, travel product development and stronger air connections. Travel& hospitality
Moreover, the partnership with TransNusa Airlines includes plans for a direct Bali–Phuket service in late 2026. The initiative will support joint marketing activities, increase destination visibility and create additional travel opportunities between the two countries.
