Good news! Our new environmental grants are open for applications.
The grants fast-track green building upgrades, climate resilience initiatives and circular economy projects.
What’s changed.
- Eligibility for green building grants has expanded to include commercial offices and retail buildings as well as hotels and apartments
- Funds for capital expenditure are now available
- You no longer need to match our funding
- We’ve added 2 new funding categories – climate resilience and circular economy
- New resources and more support are available to help you make a strong application

Not-for-profits, local businesses, strata and community organisations working on sustainability and climate resilience projects can apply now.
Green building
Supports environmental upgrades to existing buildings more than 10 years old.
Cash funding of up to $50,000 is available for each project, including up to $10,000 for capital expenditure, to reduce emissions, waste and water use through ratings, assessments and upgrades.
Projects may occur in apartment buildings or commercial buildings such as offices, hotels and retail buildings and could include building electrification studies, NABERS ratings, smart meters and monitoring systems.

Climate resilience
Supports innovative projects that help people and communities prepare for climate risks and extreme weather.
Projects that bring people together, test new ideas and build long-term resilience are encouraged.
Cash funding of up to $50,000 is available for each project, including up to $10,000 for capital expenditure.
Examples of how funding can be used include: business continuity and resilience planning, educational events for communities, facilitation of cool public spaces in heat waves, and citizen science projects.

Circular economy
Funds services, systems and programs for sharing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and repurposing products or materials, accelerating Sydney’s transition to a circular economy.
Cash funding of up to $50,000 is available for each project, including up to $10,000 for capital expenditure.
Projects could include retail fitout reuse programs, community repair networks, bike repair and redistribution programs, cardboard recycling equipment for shopping centres, and tool libraries for apartment precincts.
