Ho Chi Minh City airport, the only one in Vietnam to request Digital Arrival Card from passengers

Since April 15, 2026, most international travelers arriving at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) must submit a Vietnam Digital Arrival Card online before they can clear immigration.

The e-arrival card can be download at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn. It is completely free of charge. Travelers can submit their card up to 72 hours before arrivals. Once completed, a QR code is sent and must be presented at immigration at the airport.

The new rule designed to speed up immigration processing and reduce congestion.
Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City said the requirement is part of broader efforts to modernize border controls and improve the passenger experience at the country’s busiest southern gateway.

The system has not yet been rolled out at other airports, including Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, and there is no confirmed timeline for nationwide implementation.

Under the new process, affected travelers must complete an online pre-arrival declaration. Required details include identification information, a passport photo, and travel and accommodation data.

Once submitted, passengers receive a QR code, which must be presented to immigration officers on arrival for entry clearance.

The requirement applies to foreign nationals entering Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese traveling on visas. It does not apply to Vietnamese citizens using Vietnamese passports or to transit passengers who do not pass through immigration.

Officials warned that failure to complete the declaration in advance could lead to longer wait times at immigration counters. Travelers are also advised to ensure all information provided is accurate and complete.

The declaration can be submitted via the official online portal or by scanning QR codes provided through authorized channels.

Airlines, tour operators, and related agencies have been asked to notify passengers ahead of departure, with authorities urging full compliance to ensure a smooth rollout of the new system.
