At ITB Berlin 2026, taking place from 3 to 5 March, the Import Promotion Desk will present
selected sustainable travel offers from Brazil, with particular emphasis on the
Amazon region. The presentation forms part of the organisation’s broader
tourism promotion activities, which also support providers from Ecuador, Nepal,
Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Uzbekistan.
With more than 30 sustainable and innovative tourism partners represented
at the IPD booth, European tour operators will have the opportunity to explore
new products, expand their portfolios and prepare to enter additional
destinations in cooperation with sustainably operating destination management
companies.
In close cooperation with the Brazilian partner organisation Embratur, the Import Promotion Desk has identified tourism companies in Brazil that
operate according to sustainability principles. Among them is Poranduba Amazônia, which organises community-based
travel programmes in indigenous communities, offering insights into daily life
in the Amazon region.
Amazon Emotions operates along the Amazon River and the Rio Negro using small boats, providing highly individualised travel experiences and overnight stays in an eco-lodge environment. Another participating company, Mad Experience, focuses on wellness- and health-oriented travel programmes in the Amazon.
The portfolio presented by the Import Promotion Desk at ITB Berlin 2026
also supports tour operators seeking market entry or expansion in other
destinations. In Uzbekistan, Irene Plus Travel is
positioned as a quality-oriented and innovative destination management company
supporting travel along the Silk Road. The company is among the few in the
country whose sustainability commitment has been recognised with Travellife
Partner Status.
In Sri Lanka, Jaffna Tours & Excursion enables
tour operators to expand their programmes in the northern and north-eastern
regions of the country, areas that have so far seen limited tourism
development. Experiences include day excursions focused on Tamil culture and
visits to family-run palm plantations.
The Import Promotion Desk operates as an initiative to promote imports in
Germany, acting as a link between small and medium-sized enterprises in
selected developing and emerging countries and European importers. Its
objective is to integrate partner countries into global trade while
contributing to sustainable economic, social and ecological development.
The organisation supports small and medium-sized enterprises in accessing
the European Union market and establishing long-term trade relationships, while
also assisting European partners seeking to develop sustainable sourcing and
tourism portfolios.
The Import Promotion Desk is currently active in 21 countries, including
Brazil, Cambodia, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana,
Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Sri
Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
Its activities focus on selected sectors, including fresh produce, natural
ingredients for food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, sustainable seafood, cut
flowers, sustainable tourism, and digital services and products.
The implementation of the Import Promotion Desk is led by sequa gGmbH in cooperation with the German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services Association and
is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic
Cooperation and Development.
