Hilton signs Conrad Meia Praia Algarve

LAGOS, PORTUGAL – Conrad Meia Praia Algarve is set to open in spring 2027 following Hilton’s announcement of the signing of the new luxury beachfront resort in Portugal’s Algarve region.

The property will showcase Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ design and experiential approach and will be developed by the joint venture between PGIM’s real estate business, Sonae Sierra and Iberian Hospitality Solutions (IHSP) under a franchise agreement, marking its second collaboration with Hilton. The project will also include 21 Conrad branded residences.

Located above Meia Praia beach, a short drive from Lagos town, Conrad Meia Praia Algarve will feature 116 guest rooms and suites, all offering sea views, including seven with private plunge pools. Facilities will include two restaurants, a beach club, a lobby bar and pool bar, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a Conrad spa, a fitness centre and dedicated event space.

Dan Wakeling, Vice President, Development, luxury & residential, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton, said: “Conrad Meia Praia Algarve represents a key milestone in Hilton’s luxury growth strategy across Europe. This exceptional beachfront resort will add to our expanding range of Conrad properties across the region and offer guests a new way to experience a luxury stay in one of Portugal’s most popular destinations. We’re delighted to be working with the joint-venture between PGIM Real Estate, Sonae Sierra and Iberian Hospitality Solutions (IHSP) and their experienced development team to bring this vision to life.”

Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and category head, Hilton Luxury Brands, said: “Conrad Meia Praia Algarve gives us an extraordinary canvas to express what modern luxury means today: a place where bold design, intuitive service and the natural beauty of the Algarve come together to create a stay that feels both grounded and transportive. As travellers seek deeper connection to the world around them, this resort will offer an experience shaped by culture, craft and a true sense of place.”

On behalf of the joint venture between Sonae Sierra, PGIM and IHSP, a statement read: “We are proud to collaborate again with Hilton on the development of Conrad Meia Praia Algarve, a project that reflects our commitment to creating world-class hotel experiences. This investment is fully aligned with the strategy of our joint venture, which focuses on acquiring, developing and actively managing differentiated hospitality assets in established tourism destinations. Supported by the operational expertise of IHSP, and located in one of Portugal’s most attractive and resilient tourism markets, this project reinforces our ambition to diversify our portfolio with high-quality assets while contributing to the long-term enhancement of the country’s tourism offering.”

This represents the second investment of the joint venture between Sonae Sierra and Iberian Hospitality Solutions (IHSP), which aims to acquire, develop and actively manage differentiated hospitality assets, with a target gross asset value of approximately €200 million. The first acquisition was completed in April 2024 with the opening of Cénica Porto Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, located in central Porto.

The Algarve remains one of Europe’s leading leisure destinations, recognised for its year-round climate, golf infrastructure and coastal towns.

Conrad Meia Praia Algarve will join Hilton’s portfolio in Portugal, which currently includes 30 operating hotels and 16 in the pipeline. The signing builds on the presence of Conrad Algarve in Quinta do Lago and adds to upcoming Hilton luxury openings in Europe, including Waldorf Astoria Admiralty Arch and Sandblu Santorini, LXR Hotels & Resorts.
