San Francisco is one of the most recognisable and fascinating cities in the world – a symbol of openness, innovation and the Californian lifestyle. Scenically nestled along San Francisco Bay, with the majestic Golden Gate Bridge in the background, it delights with its diversity of landscape, culture and people.
It’s safe to say that San Francisco wouldn’t be San Francisco without the Golden Gate Bridge. Its unique orange-red colour attracts thousands of tourists every year. It enchants both on days filled with Californian sunshine and when fog blankets the region’s charms. For local residents, the Golden Gate Bridge is an important symbol of the city’s identity and unity. Its construction opened up new horizons for engineers and architects.

Fisherman’s Wharf, the harbour district, is also a must-see on the San Francisco map. The postcard-perfect landscape comes from the colourful buildings sheltering renowned restaurants offering unique flavours, mostly in the form of fresh seafood. You can also enjoy local specialities available in small stores. Apparently, this is where you can buy the best chocolate in the world! It is also worth visiting Pier 39, which is home to many sea lions.

The famous Cable Cars, commonly known as ‘yellow trams’, are a real showcase of San Francisco and one of the last manually operated cable car systems still in operation in the world. Not only does the ride on this unique form of transport take you back in time, but it is also a great opportunity to admire the picturesque views of the bay, colourful Victorian townhouses and the bustling streets of the city. The route takes you through historic neighbourhoods – from Chinatown to the business district – showcasing the diversity and unique character of San Francisco. It is worth getting off at the stop on Lombard Street, considered one of the world’s most winding streets.
