The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with global consulting firm ICF to explore areas of collaboration in sustainable tourism, climate adaptation and resilience planning across the Caribbean. The agreement provides a framework for technical cooperation and shared expertise to strengthen the region’s long-term tourism development.
The MOU outlines potential joint initiatives in destination governance, market competitiveness, capacity building and technical assistance. Both organisations intend to promote inclusive approaches to decision-making, encourage public-private partnerships and share knowledge that supports responsible tourism development aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
As part of the cooperation, CTO and ICF may work together on advisory services for sustainable and regenerative tourism projects, provide joint support in technical assistance programmes and develop capacity-building activities for tourism authorities and industry stakeholders. The agreement aims to help Caribbean destinations increase resilience, improve planning processes and enhance the sector’s overall sustainability performance.
CTO Secretary-General and CEO Dona Regis-Prosper noted that the collaboration aligns with the organisation’s goal of strengthening the region’s tourism sector through strategic partnerships. She highlighted ICF’s international expertise in destination strategy, climate resilience and sustainable development as an asset for Caribbean member states seeking to advance more competitive and inclusive tourism models.
ICF’s Head of Tourism, Nikolaos Gkolfinopoulos, emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting destinations facing complex sustainability challenges. He stated that the partnership with CTO aims to provide integrated tourism and climate-resilience solutions tailored to the needs of Caribbean nations.
The MOU was signed in London during World Travel Market and will remain in force until 2029. For travel and hospitality professionals, the agreement signals a strengthened focus on climate-ready destination planning and cross-sector collaboration in one of the world’s most tourism-dependent regions.
