Waldorf Astoria makes Nordic debut with opening of luxury hotel in Helsinki’s historic centre

HELSINKI, FINLAND – Waldorf Astoria has officially entered the Nordic region with the opening of Waldorf Astoria Helsinki, a landmark addition to Finland’s capital city. The new hotel is located in the historic Kruununhaka district and is owned by M&L Group, operated by Hilton under its luxury brand Waldorf Astoria. The property spans four heritage buildings designed by Finnish architects Evert Lagerspetz and Armas Siitonen.

The hotel offers 116 rooms, including 32 suites, combining Nordic design principles with contemporary hospitality standards. The interiors feature natural materials, handcrafted furniture and a minimalist aesthetic typical of Finnish design. Several suites include private wellness facilities such as in-room saunas, steam rooms and outdoor terraces with jacuzzis. Duplex suites under the attic preserve original wooden beams, creating residential-style spaces that reflect Helsinki’s architectural legacy.

Located a short distance from Helsinki Cathedral and the Market Square, Waldorf Astoria Helsinki provides access to cultural landmarks while being situated in a quiet residential area close to the waterfront.

Facilities and guest services

The hotel introduces several signature brand experiences, including:

  • Peacock Bar – Inspired by the historic Peacock Alley at Waldorf Astoria New York, the bar is designed as a social hub offering cocktails and light dining throughout the day. A full restaurant concept is scheduled to open in early 2026.
  • Nordic Wellness Spa – The spa includes a glass-roof atrium lounge, Finnish sauna, cold plunge pool, steam room, treatment rooms and jacuzzis, as well as a fitness centre and studio.
  • Personal Concierge – Each guest is assigned a personal concierge, a core service element of the Waldorf Astoria brand.

The hotel also includes meeting and event space, including a ballroom with parquet flooring and antique mirrors suitable for private functions and corporate gatherings.

Simon Vincent, President EMEA, Hilton said: “Waldorf Astoria hotels are located in some of the world’s most iconic destinations – from Rome and Cairo to Amsterdam and New York – and now, with the opening of Waldorf Astoria Helsinki, we’re proud to introduce Hilton’s first luxury property in the Nordics. This landmark hotel will set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in the region, blending Waldorf Astoria’s signature sophistication with the distinctive spirit of Finnish culture. Helsinki is experiencing a remarkable rise in global interest, with international overnight stays up 17% in 2024 and more than 2.2 million visitors drawn to the city last year and we look forward to welcoming many of them to Waldorf Astoria Helsinki.”

Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and global head, Hilton Luxury Brands said: “Waldorf Astoria Helsinki is more than a hotel – it’s a celebration of timeless elegance and refined luxury in the heart of Finland’s capital.  This opening marks an exciting new chapter in the continued global success of our iconic brand.
