The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently held the Amazing Thailand Mid-Autumn Night 2025 reception at One Bangkok to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic ties between China and Thailand. The event, which was part of the countrywide “Nihao Month” campaign, commemorated the two nations’ longstanding friendship through a series of cultural and tourism events. With more than 100 prominent Chinese Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), content producers, and media persons present, the event served as an opportunity to highlight Thailand’s cultural appeal and tourist attractions while solidifying bilateral relations.
Highlighting the Importance of Cultural Exchange and Tourism
During the event, Minister of Tourism and Sports Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of cultural exchange as a vital tool for strengthening diplomatic relations. “This celebration reflects the enduring friendship between Thailand and China, inspired by the Mid-Autumn Festival’s values of unity, family, and reunion. As our nations mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, the phrase ‘China and Thailand are one family’ – Zhong Tai Yi Jia Qin – perfectly captures our long-standing bond. Through tourism, we continue to strengthen this connection, sharing smiles, understanding, and experiences that bring our peoples ever closer,” said Minister Atthakorn.
The “5 Must Do Happiness on Every Route” Concept
The event was centered around the theme, “Mid-Autumn Festival Uniting Thai–Chinese Culture and Tourism,” with a particular focus on wellness, community-based tourism, and culinary traditions. This year’s initiative was structured around the “5 Must Do in Thailand” concept, which aims to introduce five key experiences to travelers visiting Thailand. The experiences include:
- Must Taste: Discovering Thailand’s rich gastronomy and authentic dishes.
- Must Try: Immersing in Thailand’s cultural traditions and activities.
- Must Buy: Purchasing unique local products and handicrafts.
- Must Seek: Exploring scenic attractions and natural beauty.
- Must See: Enjoying vibrant festivals, like the Durga Puja and Songkran.
These experiences were designed to provide travelers with a holistic and immersive travel experience that highlights the diverse cultural offerings of Thailand.
Mooncake-Making Ceremony: Symbolizing Unity and Cultural Connection
A symbolic mooncake-making ceremony led by Minister Atthakorn, Mr. Yang Xiao Long, Counselor (Cultural Section) of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, Ms. Natreeya Taweewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and Thai actor Billkin Putthipong Assaratanakul, symbolized the values of unity and good fortune celebrated during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This traditional activity allowed both Thai and Chinese representatives to participate in the cultural exchange, sharing moments of joy and reinforcing the strong ties between the two countries.
Celebrity Participation and Performances: Bridging Cultures Through Entertainment
The event featured engaging Thai and Chinese cultural performances that showcased the shared cultural heritage of both countries. Billkin, a popular Thai celebrity, entertained the guests with Thai and Chinese songs, while also sharing heartfelt messages inviting Chinese travelers to explore Thailand’s tourism charm. The event provided an excellent platform for cultural diplomacy, where Thailand’s soft power was effectively conveyed through artistic performances and shared experiences.
“Thailand, Told by You” UGC Challenge: Engaging Chinese Tourists
As part of the “Thailand, Told by You” UGC Challenge, 50 of the 100 guests were winners of this user-generated content challenge, where participants showcased their personal experiences of Thailand through social media platforms. These winners will now share their travel experiences across major Chinese digital platforms, inspiring more Chinese tourists to visit Thailand. The content will help promote Thailand’s unique travel offerings, including its heritage sites, natural beauty, and cultural festivals, increasing tourism awareness in China.
Promoting Thailand-China Tourism through Joint Campaigns
The Nihao Month 2025 campaign is part of a larger effort by TAT to promote Thailand as a preferred destination for Chinese tourists. With joint promotions in collaboration with major Chinese platforms such as Meituan, Ctrip, Tongcheng, Dianping, Alipay, WeChat, RED, and Douyin, Thailand is offering exclusive discounts and privileges to Chinese visitors. These initiatives are designed to make Thailand more accessible to Chinese travelers and to foster stronger tourism ties between the two nations.
Boosting Thailand’s Tourism: Record Visitors and Strong Growth Projections
From January to September 2025, Thailand welcomed 3,417,673 visitors from China, making it one of the largest source markets for the country’s tourism sector. With Nihao Month acting as a key marketing tool, TAT expects a significant rise in arrivals, particularly during the Lunar New Year and Golden Week periods, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a top tourism destination in Asia.
A Bright Future for Thailand-China Tourism Relations
Amazing Thailand Mid-Autumn Night 2025 reception and the Nihao Month campaign represent the further tourism cooperation between Thailand and China. With improved tourism marketing, cultural exchanges, and collaboration, the two nations are ready to create a future of win-win prosperity in tourism. Through enhanced collaboration and the promotion of sustainable tourism, Thailand is likely to remain one of the favorite destinations for Chinese travelers in search of cultural experiences, culinary explorations, and natural scenery.
