LOT Polish Airlines announced the launch of selling tickets to a new destination, this time to the city of Almaty. Passengers will enjoy flights to the former capital of Kazakhstan four times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, taking off from Warsaw Chopin Airport at 10:40 p.m. On the return leg, the national carrier will welcome passengers aboard its aircraft every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing for Warsaw at 9:20 a.m.
Flights on the WAW-ALA route will take ca. 6.5 hours, while return flights will take an hour longer. This route will be operated by comfortable Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The Zailiyskiy Alatau Mountains, surrounding the city to the south, offer numerous trekking trails of varying difficulty. One of the most picturesque is the one leading to Big Almaty Lake. With its azure waters, it makes travellers feel calm and united with nature. The lake is surrounded by three four-thousand-metre peaks – Sovetov (4,317 metres above sea level), Ozyorny (4,110 metres above sea level) and Turist (3,954 metres above sea level), which further adds to the unique atmosphere of this location. Interestingly enough, the colour of this water reservoir changes depending on the season, so it is worth visiting both in summer and winter.

Almaty stands for culture. Visitors can experience art every step of the way – in surprising architecture, bustling Expo, and museum exhibits. Former Kazakhstan’s capital has something to offer both to travellers following in the footsteps of history and to those who prefer more contemporary beauty.
It is worth heading to the Ykhlas Museum of Folk Musical Instruments. The Museum hosts over 1,000 exhibits, allowing visitors to explore the entire spectrum of the local residents’ musical heritage. The tradition of making musical instruments, cultivated for centuries, remains one of the most widespread crafts in Kazakhstan to this day.
The A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts is also noteworthy. The collection of over 23,000 artworks includes both applied art – jewellery, woodwork and woven items – and fine art – pieces by the greatest historical and contemporary artists from this part of the world.

Kazakhstan’s cuisine draws inspiration from various parts of the world, including Europe and Asia, with all these flavours arriving here via the Silk Road. That is why today, traditional regional dishes mainly consist of meat and vegetables coated in boldly selected, aromatic spices. A very substantial dish here is kuurdak – pieces of horse or mutton fried with offal and onions, sometimes also with other vegetables. Soup will also be a perfect complement, as Kazakhs simply love it. Lagman is a broth with stir-fried mutton, noodles, tomatoes and peppers. Interestingly, zero-waste cooking is of great importance to the local cuisine.
