Discover Singapore As Discovery Princess Makes Its Southeast Asia Debut

Discovery Princess, the newest vessel of Princess Cruises, arrived in Singapore for the first time as part of its Southeast Asia cruise season. The ship was welcomed with a plaque exchange ceremony at the Marina Bay Cruise Center, where key representatives from the Singapore Tourism Board, Marina Bay Cruise Center, and Wallem Shipping were present. The ceremony was presided over by Captain Tony Rugger, after which there was a ship tour and a luncheon hosted for over 50 Singaporean travel advisors.

As part of the Discovery Princess’s Singapore five-night round-trip cruise, the ship offers five-night round-trip cruises visiting the Malaysian port towns of Port Klang, Penang, and Langkawi. These ports are a great introduction to the region as they are rich in history and culture and are surrounded by the lush tropical scenery.

Plaque Exchange Ceremony Marks Significant Milestone

The plaque exchange ceremony took place during the Discovery Princess’s maiden visit to Singapore. This commemorated the growing relationship of the Princess Cruises brand and the region. This occasion was also celebratory as it marked the ship’s first visit to the Marina Bay Cruise Centre, now one of the major cruise ports in Southeast Asia. The attendance of local tourism authorities and travel advisors was a testament to the importance of Singapore as a port in the expanding cruise market in Southeast Asia.

During the ceremony, Captain Tony Rugger described the ship’s operations and the experience awaiting passengers on board the Discovery Princess. To strengthen ties with local agents, who are instrumental in the region’s tourism, travel advisors were invited to tour the ship, dine, and experience the cruise.

SE Asia Itineraries and Cruise Highlights

After completing the ceremonial disembarkation on the cruise vessel Discovery Princess in Singapore, the vessel embarked on a cruise for the next five nights in Malaysia. It planned to cruise to some of the region’s highlights and most sought-after destinations like Port Klang, the gateway to Kuala Lumpur, and Penang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its colonial architecture, cultures, and food. It will also visit Langkawi, an island famous for its beaches and natural attractions.

Princess Cruises has planned similar plaque-exchange ceremonies in Port Klang and Penang to include key stakeholders in travel advisory and local governance. This will diplomatically reinforce the region’s cruise line presence.

After completing its Southeast Asia season, Discovery Princess will make its way to Australia, where it will begin its first-ever homeporting season in Sydney on December 6, 2025. The ship will operate over 20 itineraries to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. This season will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Princess’s presence in Australia, which also marks a key milestone for Princess Cruises.

Australian itineraries will allow guests to appreciate the beautiful landscapes and lively cities of the Australian region and the rest of the world. These itineraries will offer Australian iconic attractions and beautifully scenic New Zealand and South Pacific ports. This will offer guests an ideal assortment of culture, adventure, and nature. The season will also show the strong bond Princess Cruises has with the Australian market to maintain the brand’s reputation with cruise travelers in Australia.

Developments in Singapore’s Cruise Season

While Singapore has the Discovery Princess, the Diamond Princess will also be homeporting in Singapore for the 2025-2026 season. The Diamond Princess will be offering a series of Southeast Asia cruises calling on ports in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand between December 2025 and February 2026. The high points of the cruise will include Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Halong Bay, and Ko Samui. In addition, one special sailing will include a visit to Cambodia and the world-famous Angkor Wat.

Singapore is poised to continue being a major hub for Princess Cruises, as the cruise line is set to welcome the Crown Princess in November 2025. This will allow for increased cruise line presence in the region, providing a multitude of itineraries for those wanting to experience the Southeast Asia region in a fuller, more complete Southeast Asia experience.

Anticipating Princess Cruises’ Future Growth in the Region

The introduction of Discovery Princess to the Singapore region by Princess Cruises is making on bold statement in showing the commitment to the expansion of the Southeast Asia region, as the itineraries season. With the Discovery Princess’s first voyage being a cruise for the region, it is expected to be the first of many voyages with the purpose of immersing travelers in the vast, rich cultural heritage the region has to offer.

The growth of cruise lines into this part of the world has allowed Princess Cruises to continue providing unique itineraries that target the more holidaying clientele, and round out the offerings with history-immersed itineraries. This is further expanded with accessible itineraries to the more tropical Destinations in Australia. This perfectly addresses the rising demand from clientele as the cruise line works towards a more secure global positioning.
