LOT POLISH AIRLINES AWARDED IATA IENVA CERTIFICATION

 04 June 2025

  • LOT Polish Airlines has received the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification.
  • The IEnvA certification demonstrates the airline’s commitment to meeting the highest operational and environmental standards required in the rapidly evolving aviation sector.
  • Achieving IEnvA certification supports improvements in environmental efficiency and strengthens the competitive position of the Polish carrier.
The IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) is an environmental certification programme that enables aviation sector organisations – including airlines, airports, ground service providers, cargo operators, catering firms and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) companies – to implement a comprehensive environmental management system. From 24 to 26 March 2025, LOT Polish Airlines underwent an external audit as part of the IATA Environmental Assessment Programme (IEnvA), resulting in the airline being awarded certification.
The IEnvA certificate was officially received by Dorota Dmuchowska, Member of the Board of Management for Operations of LOT Polish Airlines, at the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in New Delhi.

The IEnvA certificate is of strategic importance for LOT Polish Airlines as it confirms the airline’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and implementing sustainable practices across all areas of its business – from flight operations to office activities. At a time of growing social and regulatory expectations regarding climate responsibility, meeting international environmental standards is not only a reflection of awareness, but also contributes to building customer loyalty and enhancing reputation in the global market.

Mateusz Dziudziel, Director of the Fuel Office at LOT Polish Airlines

We are delighted to congratulate LOT Polish Airlines on achieving their first IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification. This milestone underscores LOT’s dedication to environmental stewardship and operational excellence, aligning with the aviation industry’s highest sustainability standards. By successfully completing the rigorous IEnvA audit, LOT Polish Airlines demonstrates a proactive commitment to reducing environmental impact across their operations, from flight efficiency to corporate practices. This certification not only strengthens LOT’s position as a leader in sustainable aviation but also sets a commendable example for the industry as we collectively work toward a more sustainable future.

The IEnvA certification is based on a comprehensive assessment of the airline’s environmental impact and represents the aviation industry’s counterpart to the widely recognised ISO 14001 standard. The certification process consists of three key phases: an in-depth environmental analysis (covering emissions, energy consumption, waste management and biodiversity), formal certification confirming compliance with IATA guidelines, and ongoing improvement of internal procedures and activities. Achieving IEnvA certification demands commitment from across the organisation as well as continuous progress monitoring, making it a rigorous yet highly valuable standard for the airline industry.

What does the IEnvA certification process involve?

The IEnvA audit covers an extensive range of operational and administrative activities. Within flight operations, it evaluates factors such as emissions and fuel usage during taxiing, takeoff, flight, and landing, as well as onboard procedures and emergency response measures. At the same time, auditors assess activities across corporate premises, encompassing energy and waste management, procurement policies for equipment and materials, and daily office operations. The programme emphasises identifying and reducing environmental impacts at every stage of the organisation’s operations.
IEnvA helps organisations identify areas for improvement, leading to reduced resource consumption, lower emissions and waste, and optimised operational processes. The programme also provides ready-to-use procedures, policies, templates and tools to support organisations in their environmental management efforts.
