Vizag International Cruise Terminal to Boost Visakhapatnam as a Global Cruise Tourism Hub with its Innovative Design and Comprehensive Facilities by 2025

The Vizag International Cruise Terminal (VICT) is set to position Visakhapatnam as a key player in global cruise tourism. Equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, the terminal is expected to begin full-scale operations by March 2025. With its innovative design and comprehensive facilities, the terminal aims to attract luxury cruise liners and thousands of travelers to India’s east coast.

A Gateway to Global Tourism

Built at an investment of ₹96.05 crore, the Vizag International Cruise Terminal is a collaborative effort between the Union Ministry of Tourism, which contributed ₹38.50 crore, and the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, which invested ₹57.55 crore. The terminal, shaped like a sleek modern ship, is designed to host cruises with up to 2,000 passengers.

In addition to its architectural appeal, the terminal offers a host of conveniences for travelers, including:

  • Customs and immigration counters for smooth clearance.
  • Retail outlets and duty-free shops for shopping enthusiasts.
  • Food courts and lounges to enhance passenger comfort.

Though the terminal was officially inaugurated in September 2023, its first luxury cruise docking is anticipated in April 2024, when the World War II—the world’s largest luxury cruise ship—arrives.

Expanding Connectivity

Discussions are underway with renowned cruise liners like Cordelia, Royal Caribbean, and MSC to establish Visakhapatnam as a hub for both domestic and international cruise routes. Planned destinations include Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and domestic hotspots like Chennai and the Sundarbans.

A Milestone for India’s East Coast

The Vizag International Cruise Terminal is the first of its kind on India’s eastern coastline, stretching from West Bengal to Andhra Pradesh. Located at the channel berth in the outer harbor, the terminal boasts:

  • A 330-meter-long berth accommodating large vessels, including Panama ships with capacities of 50,000 to 100,000 DWT.
  • Facilities for 2,000 to 2,500 passengers per cruise.

The modern terminal building also includes a passenger lounge, recreation areas, restrooms, duty-free shops, and currency exchange counters, ensuring a world-class experience for visitors.

With its strategic location and top-tier infrastructure, the Vizag International Cruise Terminal promises to be a game-changer for tourism in Visakhapatnam and a gateway to unparalleled maritime experiences.
