The Marine Department has finalized a study on the 12.1-billion-baht cruise terminal project, which will span 47 rai of land at Laem Hin Khom in Taling Ngam subdistrict. The study identified the location as ideal due to its deep-sea environment that naturally serves as a windbreaker, along with ample space for constructing the cruise port. It also considered emergency response capabilities and the potential for extensive commercial development.
The study recommended pursuing a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) net cost investment model, forecasting economic benefits of at least 46 billion baht over a 37-year period and an economic internal rate of return (EIRR) exceeding 15%. The Marine Department has submitted the study to the Transport Ministry, which plans to forward it to the cabinet for approval, expected next month.
Construction of the cruise terminal is set to commence in 2029, with completion targeted for 2032. Once operational, the terminal is projected to accommodate 120 cruise ship landings annually, attracting at least 180,000 visitors each year.
