The renowned luxury retreat in the Malaysian rainforest, The Datai Langkawi, is set to feature in the sixth season of BBC Studios’ celebrated documentary series, “Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby.”
This series provides a unique glimpse behind the scenes at some of the most exceptional hotels around the globe. In the sixth installment of the current season, hosts Monica Galetti and Rob Rinder will be integrated into the operations at The Datai Langkawi, uncovering the intricate details of managing such a distinguished resort sustainably amidst a lush, ancient jungle filled with wildlife.
During the episode, Monica and Rob delve deep into the natural environment of the resort, learning about its commitment to sustainability and conservation. This includes its efforts through The Datai Pledge, a private trust aimed at supporting environmental sustainability.
They also venture through the 10-million-year-old rainforest that surrounds the resort, discovering its diverse ecosystem which includes rare species such as the towering Meranti Bumbung and Keruing Damar trees, alongside wildlife like the elusive Dusky Langurs, Sunda Colugos, and the mousedeer, not to forget the critically endangered Great Hornbill.
The episode also highlights personal narratives from the resort staff, showcasing the intrinsic Malaysian hospitality known for its genuine warmth, kindness, and welcoming nature.

The Datai Langkawi is set to be featured on “Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby” airing on BBC2 at 20:00 BST on October 10, 2024. The premiere of this new series will launch on September 12, 2024, at the same time slot, 20:00 BST, on BBC2. Additionally, all episodes will be accessible for streaming on the BBC iPlayer for UK viewers starting from the premiere date.
