The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has released its Sustainability Report for the 2023/24 fiscal year, showcasing the sustainable initiatives and accomplishments of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) through March 31, 2024.
This year, AAHK launched a new strategic framework known as Ascend, which focuses on 24 strategic objectives spread across four key sustainability pillars: Environmental Excellence, Operational Excellence, Thriving Economies and Societies, and Thriving People.
Key achievements in this year’s Sustainability Report include:
- AAHK was honored as a “2024 Top-Rated ESG Performer” by Sustainalytics, a reputable ESG rating organization.
- HKIA became the first airport globally to implement the award-winning Digital Apron with Tower Management System (DATMS) for its operations.
- AAHK initiated a Renewable Diesel (RD) pilot program, positioning HKIA as the first airport in Asia to use RD in its ground service equipment.
- Two of HKIA’s aviation fuel facilities achieved International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC CORSIA) for handling Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
- AAHK expanded its autonomous vehicle fleet by launching Hong Kong’s first autonomous shuttle bus service, dedicated to airport staff transportation.
- HKIA became the world’s first airport community to achieve the full suite of International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) accreditations, solidifying its leadership in air cargo.
The SkyPier Terminal and the “Fly-Via-Zhuhai-HK” passenger transfer service launched operations, increasing HKIA’s attractiveness to travelers from the Greater Bay Area and strengthening its regional competitiveness. - A new Corporate Social Policy Statement was introduced, guiding AAHK’s initiatives to create an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive work environment for employees of all backgrounds.
- AAHK continued to attract and retain talent through various job fairs, career development programs, and initiatives aimed at employee well-being.
- Since the fiscal year 2021/22, AAHK has aligned its sustainability strategy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, the commitment was extended to include SDG 14, focusing on Life Below Water.
