Heathrow baggage system meltdown resolved

British Airways says the IT glitch at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 has been fixed.
It resulted in ‘chaos’ at the airport with some BA flights delayed by several hours and arriving passengers left without their checked luggage.

The airline said it was a ‘temporary technical fault’ affecting the baggage system, and was the result of a third part outage.

It had brought in extra staff to help reunite travellers with their luggage.

It started on Tuesday but BA says was resolved by the end of the day.

However, some travelers waited many hours for bags and some travelled without them.

The glitch didn’t affect any other airlines.

“British Airways has a terrible track record for technical and IT failures, and this latest incident will be hugely upsetting for passengers who now face the stress of trying to locate lost baggage,” said Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel.

“It is essential that BA acts swiftly to reunite passengers with their belongings and that they promptly reimburse passengers for out of pocket expenses.”

“Any travellers affected should ensure they keep hold of any receipts in order to claim back the cost of essential items they need to purchase during the delay.”
