The Monthly On-Time Performance Report – March 2024

 

GLOBAL SUMMARY – February 2024

Aeromexico (AM) was the leader and the most improved airline in February, with a 90.66% OTP, a 12.5 point increase in OTP over January’s performance (78.13%). Delta Air Lines (DL) secured the second-place position with an OTP of 89.27%, a near 10-point improvement from the previous month. Iberia (IB) took the third-place spot with an OTP of 88.08%. With a near 7-point increase over the previous month’s performance, United Airlines (UA) secured the fourth position with an OTP of 84.91%. United was followed closely by Azul (AD) in fifth place with an OTP of 84.83%.

In APAC, Singapore Airlines (SQ) topped the region with an OTP of 84.12%, followed by ANA (NH) in second place with an OTP of 82.85%. Cathay Pacific (CX) secured the third-place position with an OTP of 82.03%, and was closely followed by JAL (JL) with an OTP of 81.41%. Garuda Indonesia (GA) took the fifth-place position with an OTP of 81.09%. A significant 21% decrease in the number of flights cancelled was observed in the region for February, compared to January.

In North America, in February, a staggering 77% decrease in cancelled flights led to OTP improvements of seven to ten points by the top performing North American airlines. Delta Air Lines (DL) remained the dominating carrier in the region, with an OTP of 89.27%. This is a near 10-point increase over the previous month’s OTP of 79.97%. United Airlines (UA) took second place with an OTP of 84.91%, which was almost a
7-point improvement over the previous month’s performance. A remarkable 10-point improvement propelled American Airlines (AA) from fifth to third place this month, with an OTP of 84.43%. With a 7- point improvement over January, Alaska Airlines (AS) secured the fourth place with an OTP of 81.91%. Alaska was closely followed by Southwest Airlines (WN) with an OTP of 81.88%, this was nearly an 8- point increase compared to last month’s OTP of 74.31%.

In Europe, the majority of airlines in the region significantly improved their OTP in February, while the total number of flights canceled decreased by 7%. Austrian Airlines (OS) maintained its top-ranking position again this month, with an impressive OTP of 92.96%, which was a 6-point increase over last month’s OTP of 86.95%. Iberia Express (I2) also remained in the second place position this month with an OTP of 90.15%, followed by Aegean Airlines (A3) with an OTP of 89.67%. ITA Airways (AZ), joined the ranking this month in fourth place with an OTP of 89.32%, a 3-point improvement compared to last month’s performance. Vueling (VY) took fifth place with an OTP of 89.11%.

In Latin America, Latin America saw a 35% decrease in flight cancellations in February, from 4,452 in January to 2,938 flights this month. Copa Airlines (CM) concluded the month with an impressive OTP of 91.66%, leading the Latin America region. With an outstanding 12-point improvement over last month’s performance, Aeromexico (AM) moved from seventh to second place and finished the month with an OTP of 90.66%. Caribbean Airlines (BW) took third place with an OTP of 87.94%, Azul (AD) secured the fourth place with an OTP of 84.83%, this was nearly a 4-point improvement over last month’s OTP of 80.93%. Avianca (AV) took fifth place with an OTP of 83.88%.

In the Middle East and Africa, A marginal decrease of 1-2 points in OTP was observed by the majority of airlines, despite a 35% decrease in the number of cancelled flights in the region. Safair (FA) concluded the month strong with an OTP of 93.96%, leading both the Middle East & Africa region and the Low-Cost Carrier category. Oman Air (WY) remained in second place with an OTP of 88.11%. Gulf Air (GF) took the third place spot with an OTP of 84.08%. Qatar Airways (QR) took fourth place with an OTP of 83.27%. Saudia (SV) came in fifth place with an OTP of 81.56%.

For LCCs, For seven months running, Safair (FA) has been the undisputed leader in this category. The carrier concluded the month with an outstanding OTP 93.96%. Spanish low-cost airline, Iberia Express (I2), remained in second place with an OTP of 90.15%, followed by Vueling (VY) with an OTP of 89.11%. Two new names completed the top-ranking list in February, with Eurowings (EW) finishing in fourth place with an OTP of 87.16%, and Wizz Air Malta (W4) taking fifth place with an OTP of 85.30%.
