Southwest Airlines’ famous open single-class seating policy could be changing.
The Dallas based airline is mulling changes.
Southwest has an economy class cabin with no pre assigned seating and mostly open boarding.
It does, however, offer earlier boarding for a fee.
CEO Bob Jordan said the airline is looking at changes.
“We’re looking into new initiatives, things like the way we seat and board our aircraft,” Jordan said.
Although, it touts its simple and user-friendly seating policy, it restricts its ability to make more money from fees.
Jordan said a review of passenger seating has brought up ‘interesting’ results.
Other than that, no decisions have been made yet on changes.
“Customer preferences do change over time,” Jordan added.
While airlines such as Delta and United have introduced a number of fee-paying choices for priority boarding, extra legroom seating and more, Southwest has been steadfast in its simple seating policy with no premium options.
