Planning and Preparations by Airlines and Airports
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has reported a 16.5% increase in daily takeoffs and landings during the holiday week, compared to average days in April. This ramps up the daily operations to 1,285, nearly reaching the traffic levels of the same period last year, which stood at 98%. This strategic increase in flight operations is designed to accommodate a projected total of 1.53 million passengers across all routes in Vietnam travel industry, peaking on Friday, April 26, with 1,530 takeoffs and landings and about 260,000 travelers.
Capacity Enhancements on Key Routes
The focus on enhancing capacity is particularly noticeable on routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), which are among the busiest. Overall, Vietnamese airlines aim to offer approximately 900,000 seats on domestic flights, with a significant portion of these on the Hanoi-HCMC route. This includes 657,000 seats and 3,400 flights to various localities from Hanoi and HCMC, marking a growth of 4.2% in seats and 5.5% in flights compared to the same timeframe in 2023.
Managing Increased Traffic at Major Tourist Destinations
The Airports in key tourist locations such as Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Khanh Hoa, Thua Thien – Hue, Binh Dinh, Da Lat, Dien Bien, Quang Binh, and Con Dao are expected to see substantial increases in both flights and passenger numbers. These areas are popular destinations during national holidays, prompting airlines and airport authorities to enhance their operational capabilities to handle the increased flow smoothly.
Operational Adjustments for Efficient Handling
To manage the increased demand efficiently, airlines have received adjusted slots at various airports nationwide. This adjustment allows for more flexible scheduling and maximizes the use of aircraft fleets, especially during the evening and nighttime hours, which are crucial for accommodating the heightened holiday traffic.
Ensuring Passenger Convenience and Safety
With the expected surge in air travel, both airlines and airport authorities are placing a high emphasis on ensuring passenger convenience and safety. Measures are in place to streamline processes at airports, reduce wait times, and ensure that safety protocols are rigorously followed amidst the increased passenger load.
Economic Impact and Benefits
This surge in domestic flights during the holiday period not only meets the travel demand but also significantly contributes to the local economy, especially in tourist-heavy regions. The increased number of visitors supports local businesses, from hospitality to retail, and underscores the vital role of the aviation sector in boosting domestic tourism.
Ready for the Holiday Rush
As Vietnam’s domestic airlines ramp up operations for the Reunification Day and Labor Day holidays, the comprehensive planning and adjustments by the aviation industry are set to ensure a seamless travel experience for thousands of holiday-goers. This period highlights the resilience and responsiveness of Vietnam’s aviation sector in facilitating not just travel but also in contributing to the country’s economic vitality through enhanced tourism activity. With all systems set to go, Vietnam is poised to handle the holiday rush with efficiency and flair, making it an enjoyable experience for travelers and a profitable period for the tourism and service industries.
