Gen Zers skipping booze for Spring Break ‘dry tripping’

Is the raucous booze-fueled Spring Break tradition losing its shine?

There is a growing trend of Gen Zers ‘dry tripping’ in the spring – an alcohol-free vacation. According to International Wine and Spirit Research, over half of American legal drinking-aged Gen Zers haven’t touched alcohol in the past six months.

“Alcohol-free travel allows for hangover-free travel, which I think we can all get behind,” says Elizabeth Gascoigne, CEO of Absence of Proof, a non-alcoholic events company.

Hotels and resorts have taken note with more non-alcoholic options, and replacing ‘social drinking’ venues with more experience-led or wellness-focused amenities.

“Cutting alcohol out of a vacation will make the journey more meaningful and fulfilling,” says Dr. Subhash C. Pandey, director of the Alcohol Research Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago,.
