“The tourism destination for hiking at Mount Rinjani National Park will reopen on April 1, 2023,” said Dedy Asriady, Chief of the Mt Rinjani National Park (BTNGR) of the Environment and Forestry Ministry, in Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara on Saturday.
Due to harsh weather that might threaten visitors, the ministry has blocked the popular hiking routes from January 1 to March 31, 2023.
The trekking paths were restricted to aid in the recovery of the national park’s environment.
The reopened hiking routes, according to Asriady, include the Senaru and Torean routes in North Lombok District, the Sembalun, Timbanuh, and Tetebatu routes in East Lombok District, and the Aik Berik route in Central Lombok District.
From March 27, visitors can register online via the e-Rinjani application, he added.
“The registration for trekking at Mount Rinjani is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time,” Asriady added.
In addition to trekking, he stated that the authorities will reopen two non-trekking sites that had previously been closed due to harsh weather, as well as open a new destination, the Tiu Ngumbak waterfall in Kayangan Sub-district, North Lombok District.
According to Asriady, the national park will open the tourist attraction at full capacity, with a four-day, three-night excursion.
“All trekking and non-trekking activities will apply general guidance on discipline and standard operational procedures,” he stated.
The BTNGR recorded 55,348 people visiting Mount Rinjani between March and December 2022, with 45,390 domestic tourists and 9,958 international tourists.
The number of tourists was 39,226 from April to December 2021, including 38,785 domestic tourists and 441 overseas tourists.
