Forbes Travel Guide and SHe Travel Club award Intercontinental Lisbon with top accolades

InterContinental Lisbon is delighted to have won two top global travel awards at the beginning of spring 2023, confirming its place as Lisbon’s leading contemporary five-star hotel – the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Rating; and the SHe Travel Club certification label, the very first five-star hotel in Lisbon to receive it and only one of 200 hotels in the world to be awarded this exceptional accreditation.

The Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Rating for 2023 signifies that this outstanding property is one of the very best in its destination. Recently refurbished and boasting sweeping views over Lisbon’s old city and the Tagus River, its up-to-date interior with plum, silver, and gold accents gives it a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere in a luxurious setting. This is somewhere where you can unwind but have everything you need from a world-class hotel in a world-class city close at hand.

The Forbes inspector made special mention of the following:

  • InterContinental Lisbon’s Akla Restaurant and Bar, which opened in 2016, is welcoming, cosy, and approachable. Chef Eddy Melo’s menu focuses on sharing plates and traditional Portuguese tastes.
  • Evenings are a good time to head for the funky Uptown Bar with its specialist mixologists, who can stir up any drink you desire. The bar stocks a huge collection of gins and in the early hours, takes on a nightclub feel.
  • Guests can relish breathtaking views of the city from most of the rooms, looking out over the nearby Eduardo VII Park and Lisbon’s mosaic of terracotta rooftops.

The SHe Travel Club certification label is a first for a hotel in Lisbon and puts the InterContinental Hotel at the top of any hospitality listing for women travelling for work or leisure to Lisbon. With only 200 hotels in the world to have this recognition, the hotel is acknowledged as a safe and comfortable place for women to enjoy their stay – and the only place in Lisbon to display the seal.

The SHe Travel Club promotes the classification of hotels based on women’S needs and expectations and ensures checks of each property for safety, services, comfort, and dining.

“We couldn’t be more proud to receive this certification,” says Maarten P. Drenth, Area General Manager at IHG in Portugal. “We are pleased to partner with SHe Travel Club and support the initiative to improve the travel experience for women. This is proof that the InterContinental Lisbon is an inclusive hotel and for us, it is important that all our guests feel safe and comfortable during their stay.”

To gain the coveted certification, the SHe Travel Club, which aims to promote gender equality in hospitality, conducts studies in several countries to find out what women need and expect when they are travelling. In addition, the Club works with professionals in the hospitality sector, to scope out and recommend how to improve services regarding safety, comfort, amenities, meals, and entertainment, so that they are more able to receive guests from all over the world.

‘She, Safe and Happy everywhere’ is the promise to all women from the independent and global SHe hotel labelling organisation, whose recommendations are based on exclusive surveys of 5,000 women in five countries. Today, women make up 64 per cent of global travellers and 52 per cent of business travellers, so for this important demographic sector, the SHe Travel Club mark of approval offers peace of mind and quality assurance away from home.

With views over the city, Parque Eduardo VII, and the Tagus River, the five-star InterContinental Lisbon is a haven of peace and tranquillity with newly renovated bedrooms and suites spread across 19 floors.
