A modern take on traditional

A Victorian country manor hotel in Kidderminster has begun works on its first major development in a decade with a $432,000 (£350,000) project to create an exclusive new three-bedroom lodge.

Brockencote Hall Hotel is transforming the original Gate House to the manor house, which dates back to 1884, into a new two-story lodge ideal for weddings, families or staycations.

“The Lodge building is architecturally different from the main house and although we wanted to give the Lodge its own identity; we also wanted to ensure that it complimented the elegant interiors of the main house,” said Lucy Yarwood, interior designer, The Eden Hotel Collection.

Named Brockencote Lodge, the new facility aims to provide guests with a unique stay in Worcestershire—and even includes breakfast delivered to their front door. Guests can book the lodge per room or in its entirety for a truly exclusive experience.

“In design, we do take reference from historical items or the architecture of the building and we aim to create an interior scheme that is timeless and comfortable and well thought out, familiar rather than trend-setting,” Yarwood said. “The interior of the building sadly lacked any historical features and we wanted to bring back elements of character and a story to the areas. We have added cornicing, detailed architrave and skirtings. Two rooms feature roll top baths, both are a ‘modern take’ on traditional pieces.”

The scheme marks the first major development at the hotel since a full refurbishment was carried out by award-winning luxury hotel group The Eden Hotel Collection in 2012, a year after it purchased the four-star hotel.

“The lodge is located at the entrance to the driveway and in the past, may not have been noticed as your eye is drawn to the tree-lined driveway and main house so we wanted to breathe life back into the building and create an elegant interior to compliment the main house and by landscaping the exterior areas the Lodge now stands proudly at the main entrance,” Yarwood explained.

The lodge will include two ground-floor double bedrooms with ensuites, an open kitchen, dining and lounge area and a secluded private terrace with a hot tub. There will also be a king-size bedroom with an ensuite and a separate dressing/makeup area on the first floor.

Midlands firm Ainsworth Construction has been appointed to carry out the works.

The hotel is located in the Chaddesley Corbett countryside, but is ideally placed to local attractions and is just a 10-minute drive from Kidderminster town center. As well as 21 luxurious bedrooms in the main house with views of its 70 acres of parkland, the hotel also offers fine dining in its acclaimed 3 AA Rosette restaurant The Chaddesley.
