CATCHING UP WITH WA

InspireDesign recently spoke with members of Wallcoverings Association (WA), to learn about what’s new, innovative and on-trend in the world of wallcoverings. Take a look at some of the designs below:

Astek
Geographia (pictured beside)—The Geographia collection explores the map medium as a tool for visual and conceptual exploration. By using, manipulating, and at times breaking mapping conventions, our designers pushed the medium to explore the intersection of psychology and geography. Unlike traditional maps, these designs focus on the psychological experiences of space, revealing emotional and experiential interpretations of cartography. The final murals were created with digital and analog techniques such as collage, painting, weaving, and relief sculpture. Geographia is digitally printed to order on Type II substrates at our Los Angeles-based studio.

“Inspired by our inherent connection to space, Geographia explores the emotional and psychological experiences of geography,” said Rachel Brand, design + media manager, Astek.

In Bloom

In Bloom—Bas Meeuws’ work breathes new life into the 17th-century Dutch and Flemish still life genre. Using photography as a base, he draws on his catalogue of more than 13,000 species to create intricate floral arrangements, here and there enlivened by insects or gastropods. Demonstrating mastery in skill, his hyper-realistic photographic “paintings” are bursting with gorgeous and unexpected details. In Bloom is an exclusive collection printed with precision as show-stopping murals by Astek.

Window Film can enhance any design within a building by offering increased safety, comfort, security and ever saving benefits. Window Film actively reduces light pollution as well as allowing natural light while rejecting the heat that typically follows. This lowers the overall energy consumption of a building and contributes to LEED credits.

Loblolly

With Colour & Design Digital Imaging, it uses its Digital Window Film and Digital Wall Surfacing technology to unleash creative inspirations.

Loblolly, a maximum-effect graphic design depicting puzzle size shapes, evocative of ice cream sugar cones, fragmenting the surface and refracting light in the most amusing way.

Boka Bloom, florals for spring with this elegant budding tree design.

Printed window films can be an effective way to infuse color and design into otherwise plain glass windows, partitions and doors. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, printed films can also be used to add privacy, control light, improve way-findin, and more. All of its window film products are printed on our high performance, scratch-resistant, Optically Clear Polyester Window Film.

Levels’ Tree Rings—The inspiration for this design was to bring nature indoors, which has been a huge trend during the pandemic and post-pandemic world. Levels wanted to combine a graphic effect with the natural wood. The wood grain is extremely detailed and works well in many different settings.
