It’s time to rethink about tourism

The UNWTO is one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations, which aims to promote tourism globally and to make it the principal engine for economic growth and sustainable development.

Tourism is a sector that is hit the most by the pandemic, as well as along with all the people and the livelihoods depending on it. It has been a tough two years’ time; however, in the future, we will have to fully rethink the sector and create more opportunities.

Developed countries are much better prepared to support the impact, mostly with financial packages for buttressing the industry and small businesses, and for safeguarding people’s jobs. Bit developing countries are really struggling to do that.

We depend on the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the importance of engaging in safer travel protocols rather than stopping travel altogether, because we know the number of livelihoods depending on tourism, not only directly, but also those working in industries that depend on the sector, like food production, services and manufacturing.

When populations are increasingly moving to urban areas, rural development with the help of tourism is certainly going to be one of the major trends in the sector. An initiative is known as, ‘Best Tourism Villages’, would help in having a global center for rural development of tourism.
