The Indonesian island of Bali would reopen its airport to international arrivals this month, said the officials. They said that the country is theoretically ready to revive its tourism industry after being affected badly by Covid-19.
Bali NgurahRai Airport in Denpasar will start welcoming arrivals from a select number of countries from October 14, according to LuhutBinsarPanjaitan, Indonesia’s minister of maritime affairs and investment.
However, he did not clarify whether foreign tourists would be allowed.
He said that the move would be taken aheadif the airport can accomplishthe requirements for quarantine, testing and Covid response.
“Every international arrival passenger must have proof of booking a hotel for quarantine for a minimum of eight days at their own expense,”said Luhut.
The logistics for this plan are still indefinite.
Currently, there is no list available for accepted accommodation where tourists would quarantine, and it’s unknown whetherBali will open up tourist-only “corridors” or “bubbles” to keep travelers and locals disconnected.
Indonesia has been one of Asia’s hardest-hit countries regardingCovid cases and fatalities. Luhut said Indonesia is still discerning in allowing which foreigners can enter Indonesia. Citizens of several countries currently allowed to enter under highly specific circumstances are South Korea, China, Japan, the United Arab Emirates such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai and New Zealand.
