Florida leads the “revenge travel” trend with a boom in bookings for Spring Break and Easter

BARCELONA - Optimistic news has been abound for the travel industry as of late. With news of positive traveller sentiment, encouraging predictions for airline recovery and the UK’s announcement of their de-escalation plan, the beginning of the “Revenge Travel” trend could be in sight for many regions throughout the world.

Vacation rentals have mostly fared better than hotels throughout the last year. Over and over, travellers are choosing vacation rentals during this time due to safety and distancing rules, more flexibility and favored amenities such as better wifi, and larger spaces to accommodate family members.

Rentals United has discovered some markets are not only performing well but growing.

USA recovery leaps ahead
The United States is on a clearer path to recovery, compared to other countries, with new vacation rental bookings stradling pre-pandemic levels. Rentals United is now seeing the number of new bookings back to the same levels as those of 2019.

Furthermore, the average increase in total number of nights is 38%, as depicted in this graph, showing the market is actually performing better than 2019 - with higher occupancy:

Florida leading the way
Recent trends have indicated that travellers are more likely to choose leisure locations over urban ones. With nicer weather, a variety of outdoor venues, a large selection of national parks, and renowned amusement parks, Florida is rapidly attracting travellers. This state is outperforming the rest of the country, at an incredible 300% increase in vacation rental bookings compared to 2019.

Central Florida, including the Orlando area, holds the predominant amount of vacation rental bookings of about 80% of all Florida reservations. The Disney World theme parks are apparently fully booked already for upcoming spring break dates. The Miami area is also extremely popular with approximately 10% of the bookings

According to the Rentals United data, most of the bookings are for within 60 days from now - 68% of bookings are made for the next 60 days.

These metrics inspire some optimism for travel recovery this year. The United States is showingsigns of progress and Florida will be a winner this coming Easter and Spring Break.
