Emporda Golf Club’s decision to undertake a recent major investment in its golf and leisure facilities has paid immediate dividends with the Spanish resort one of the biggest climbers in Golf World magazine’s new list of the ‘Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe.’
The 36-hole venue in Spain’s popular Costa Brava region moved up an impressive 23 places to 35th in the updated rankings of the respected industry list.
Emporda scored highly across the four categories that resorts were assessed on – golf courses, accommodation, setting and non-golf amenities – and, with the resort still to complete the upgrade of its two 18-hole golf courses, 86-room hotel and leisure facilities, there is the promise of a further substantial rise up the rankings in the future.
Announcing its verdict, the Top 100 panel said: “This is a significant rise for Emporda but likely to be only the first – because we haven’t yet fully experienced the revamped resort. Under new owners and new management, both courses as well as the hotel are benefiting from significant investment.”
Miguel Girbes, general manager at Emporda Golf Club, said: “The updated list is great news for everyone involved at the resort, and immediate reward for the investment that is taking place.
“The dream of the new owners is for Emporda to be rated alongside the very best golf venues in Europe, and rankings such as these demonstrates that we’re making strides to achieving this ultimate goal. Emporda is a name that’s highly regarded and well-known within golfing circles, and this presents us with the perfect foundations for our ambitious project.
“We have some big plans for the future and I’m confident that, with the level of investment that is taking place, Emporda will quickly be transformed into one of the most enticing facilities in Europe for travelling golfers.”
Located 30 minutes from Girona in the heart of the Costa Brava region, Emporda Golf Club’s impressive facilities include two 18-hole championship courses – Emporda Links and Emporda Forest, both designed world-renowned architect Robert von Hagge.
As part of the extensive renovation plans, both courses have undergone significant investment to elevate the golf experience being offered to members and guests, with work being undertaken including the reconstruction of all bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker method, a comprehensive tree clearance programme and purchase of new greenkeeping equipment to improve the all-round condition of tees, fairways and greens.
Away from the fairways, Hotel Emporda Golf has been transformed with a modern and contemporary new look with the bedrooms, communal areas and restaurant all being redesigned and renovated.
A new restaurant concept has been created throughout Emporda’s dining areas while an outdoor swimming being installed to help guests relax after a hard day on the fairways.
And golfers can also enjoy an improved experience in the redesigned clubhouse, with the building’s pro shop, golf reception and newly-rebranded restaurant Terraverda all being given a fresh and contemporary new look.
