Belize to restart tourism from August

Belize will reopen to international tourism on August 15

Belize has recently decided that it work towards starting the process of tourism reopening from August 15. Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced that the Philip Goldson International Airport would also resume operations in mid-August. The reopening would mark the beginning of phase three of a five phase recovery and reopening plan as outlined by the country.

Upon reopening, the airport will be set to welcome chartered flights and private aviation and will also mark a limited re-opening of international leisure travel. All guests arriving in the country will be invited to stay in approved hotels only. Various enhanced health and safety protocols for hotels have already been approved by Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Jose Manuel Heredia.

Belize has also introduced a special nine-point programme with the aim of enhancing the tourism industry’s health and safety standards by adapting new behaviours and procedures. The programme will work towards ensuring that both employees and travellers are confident in the cleanliness and safety of the domestic tourism product. In addition, it will be mandatory for travellers arriving in the country to adhere to health and safety measures.

Travellers have also been asked to maintain social distancing, hand sanitisation and proper hygiene.  Usage of face masks in public spaces has also been made mandatory. Passengers will also be required to download a health app and complete the required information prior to boarding any flight to Belize. Preparation for the return of visitation via land borders and cruising are still underway. Authorities have mentioned that other necessary re-opening plans will be announced at a later date.
