WTTC launches world’s first global safety stamp for travel and tourism sector

WTTC launches world's first ever global safety stamp to recognise ...

On Wednesday, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) launched the first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp of the world. The stamp will serve as special safety and hygiene mark in order to provide consistency and reassurance for consumers that are essential for a rapid recovery of the travel and tourism sector.

The special stamp will help tourists and travelers across the globe to identify governments and businesses which have adopted the globally standardised protocols of health and hygiene. This would allow travelers to experience ‘Safe Travels’ after the trying times are over. Businesses associated with the tourism sector like tour operators, airlines, transportation and airports, hotels, restaurants, cruise lines as well as outdoor shopping will be eligible to use the stamp once after the implementation of the health and hygiene protocols outlined by WTTC.

WTTC’s plan to launch the safety protocols to recover the travel and tourism industry has been approved by nearly 200 CEOs around the world including some of the world’s major tourism groups. The move has also received support from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). The Chair of the G20 tourism group, Saudi Arabia as well as popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Portugal, Barcelona, and Seville are some of the first destinations to support the stamp and implement global standard protocols for fast recovery of the tourism sector.

Gloria Guevara, President & CEO, WTTC said in a statement that the association is glad to receive support from recognised tourism bodies who are providing support to private sector global protocols and acknowledging WTTC’s efforts as public-private collaboration is critical to ensure a faster recovery. She shared that the organisation has learned from past crises that global standard protocols and consistency provide confidence for the travelers. She mentioned that the new global safety stamp is designed to help rebuild worldwide consumer confidence.

She informed that with the help of the stamp will be able to recognise the businesses and destinations worldwide which have adopted the new set of global protocols. She said that the action will encourage the return of ‘Safe Travels’ around the world and help the travel and tourism sector to reopen for business and move in a coordinated approach.

She further mentioned that the global private sector has rallied around protocols related to safe travels for the first time ever. She added that this will create consistency across the sector and help it recover from the crisis better. She also said that the implementation of the protocols by governments around the world will restore much-needed confidence required to restore the travel and tourism industry.

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General, UNWTO added that the organisation appreciates WTTC’s global safety stamp and safe travel protocols and its contribution towards restoring confidence in travel. He said that the idea is the key behind building trust in travel once again and success can only be achieved once everyone works together.

He shared that public and private sector collaboration is extremely important at present and UNWTO is happy to be working together with WTTC on post coronavirus recovery. He said that the organisation also values WTTC’s contribution to UNWTOs Global Crisis Committee and mentioned that the two tourism bodies are united in the common goal of introducing the tourism sector’s comeback. He mentioned that trust and tourism will catalyze consumer demand, investments, and jobs, and generate opportunities for everyone as a result.

WTTC has already launched the first of a range of new worldwide measures as part of the travel safety protocols last week. These protocols provide guidance to travel providers and travelers about the new approach to health, hygiene, deep cleansing, and physical distancing in a post-pandemic world.
