A number of glass-bottomed tourist attractions in China have been forced to close due to safety fears. So far, over the past 18 months, 32 glass bridges and walkways have been closed in the Hebei Province in the northeast of the country.
Just two years back the 488m-long Hongyagu glass suspension bridge tagged as the worlds’ longest was opened.
Authorities have demanded changes in the six scenic spots in southern China’s Guangdong province.
In an effort to woo tourists, the country saw many attractions springing up across the country. There are 2,300 glass-bottomed bridges and countless glass walkways or slides some of which have encountered safety issues.
It was reported in 2015,a glass-bottomed walkway attached to the side of a mountain in China’s Henan province cracked after tourists walked across it, it was then shut down for repairs.
After that the world’s formerly highest and longest glass-bottomed bridge in China was forced to close for maintenance. This happened two weeks after opening to the public.
In the Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, the six-metre-wide bridge which is 430m long spans a valley connecting two mountains.
The Canton Tower Bubble Tram in Guangzhou and the Cliff Swing in Chongqing are the other terrifying tourists attractions in China.
