Winter Palace
One of the most iconic sights in St Petersburg, the Winter Palace is a dominating attraction in Palace Square, standing as a symbol of the cultural, artistic and historical inheritance of the city. The palace cake to life in 1708, when it was a Dutch-style wooden home built for the family of Peter the Great. Subsequently, the palace was transformed into the ornate, extravagant and colorful building that it is in the present day. Inside, the palace contains stunningly intricate marble work, stupendous grand staircases and beautiful gold-leafed trims that visitors are left in awe of.
Alexander Garden
Russia isn’t all about historic buildings and monuments - if you’d like to take a moment to get lost in nature then Alexander Garden is an ideal place to visit. Once a popular leisure spot for St. Petersburg’s aristocracy, the garden was designed in the 1800s to honor the day that would have been Peter the Great’s 200th birthday. Alexander II officially opened the garden in 1874 and requested over 50 species of plants.
