When asked why the Dutch go on holiday to Greece, Griekenland.net has received many answers in recent months. A total of 1,046 visitors from the website Griekenland.net voted in the online survey. Greek hospitality received 24% of the total number of votes and the Dutch appreciate this the most about Greece. Sun, sea and beach is another important attraction and was chosen by 21% of the respondents. Greek cuisine is also very attractive. 14% would like to go on holiday to the mainland or the Greek islands to taste the local cuisine.
Greek hospitality makes the Dutch feel more than welcome in the South European country. Greeks are happy, open minded and help you wherever possible. After a short, pleasant and friendly conversation you can just be invited to their homes for a drink. Most Greeks speak English, but they appreciate it if we try to speak a little Greek. And that is precisely what the Dutch like to do.
Culture (9%) and nature and walking (8%) are also considered important by Dutch tourists. Greece has many archaeological sights and museums. Hiking is especially popular in the early and late season. Nature is in full bloom everywhere in Greece in May and June.
The stress and haste is a lot less in Greece than in, for example, the west part of The Netherlands. A siesta on vacation is welcome and regular during holidays. The pleasant and warm climate of Greece in the summer months plays a major role in this. A small percentage of the respondents (3%) mentions the safe feeling they have in Greece during a trip as a reason to return.
