Sustainability initiatives at Club Med resorts

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Sustainability initiatives at Club Med resorts

For more than 60 years, sustainability has been part of Club Med’s DNA.  Club Med resorts are extremely vigilant with energy efficiency, saving, treating and recycling water, promoting renewable energy sources, controlling the water treatment and recycling techniques.
Initiatives:
  • Bye to single-use plastic: Club Med has taken efforts to eradicate single-use plastic items from all its resorts worldwide, to reduce their footprint and keep the ocean clean
  • Green Globe certified: Currently 74% of Club Med resorts worldwide have been awarded “Green Globe Certified” for Sustainable Tourism, including Club Med Bali, Club Med Cherating Beach, Club Med Phuket, and many more
  • Monitoring use of water: Over the last years, Club Med has made a conscious effort to reduce water consumption in their resorts, reducing it by 12.5% in hydric-stressed zones from 2010 to 2015. Moreover, 100% of water waste is treated, and currently 89% of the resorts have water flow reducers
  • Farm to fork: 90% of food materials and produce in the Club Med resorts are purchased from local and agro-ecological farmers, providing guests with in-season, organic and pesticide-free food that goes directly from farm to fork. Also, Club Med Bali has witnessed 56% less food wastage due to the use of a new innovative technology called Winnow. This program is currently being rolled out across all Club Med Asian resorts
  • Ecological walks: Ecological walks are conducted regularly to collect waste from local areas. These educational and fun eco treks are a perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature. In Club Med Cherating Beach for example, guests get to reconnect with nature, discover the incredible preserved forests surrounding the resort, and learn about wildlife protection
  • Preservation of biodiversity: From respecting the fauna and flora of the natural areas during the construction of resorts to protecting endangered species, Club Med resorts play an important role in the preservation of biodiversity.
    - The turtle nursery at Club Med Bintan Island allows to nurse sea turtles back to health and promote their breeding
    - The artificial reef at Club Med Kani and fish refuge at The Finolhu Villas helps to preserve the ocean’s biodiversity in the Maldives
Club Med Cherating Beach’s natural site provides a home for macaque monkeys and many more tropical species
CLUB MED’s dedication to Biodiversity – Coral reefs preservation at Club Med Kani in Maldives
Club Med trains more than 15,000 G.O.s (Gentil Organisateur) each year on sustainability to help preserve the environment. These G.O.s then raise awareness among the guests through eco-initiatives, bring forward new ideas on how Club Med can become more sustainable, and coordinate the environmentally-friendly initiatives in the resorts.
Club Med has real experts on biodiversity and sustainability in the resorts, including marine biologists at Club Med Kani in Maldives. Guests staying at the resort can create their very own coral habitat for marine life. With a web-like pattern and a strong metal structure, these frames will last a lifetime. Led by their own marine biologist, you will learn a valuable lesson on conservation while taking part in the greater good. Choose the size of coral frame you prefer, attach coral of your choice, and place it in the sea to begin a new reef where fish will come to explore. Then, follow the evolution of your coral with photos posted regularly on our partner Reefscapers’ dedicated online platform. There’s nothing more rewarding than participating in preservation in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
