Ethiopian Minister of Culture and Tourism Hirut Kassaw said that since July, Ethopia sees the high-time for tourism. This is good news for the development of the tourism infrastructure of Ethopia. Now the travel and tourism business generated millions in revenue for the country.

According to the latest findings, more than 2.5 billion dollars were obtained from international tourists who visited Ethiopia during the past nine months (July 2018-March 2019). The Minister of Culture and Tourism Hirut Kassaw revealed this when the report of her management was presented at the Parliament of Ethiopia.

During that period, more than 500,000 international tourists and 23 million domestic visited the tourist destinations of the country, she stated. Hirut Kassaw also said that these tourism figures have a lot of margin for the tourism infrastructural growth, as of a better publicity in and outside the country’s borders, and the improvement and diversification of all services.

On the other hand, the Ethiopian Minister informed that the restoration work of the Obelisk of Axum, the churches carved in the rock of Lalibela and the Palace of Jimma Aba Jifar will soon begin. This is one of the popular tourist attract in Ethiopia. She also reported that she has presented the documentation to register Dirre Sheikh Hussein, an Islamic center for pilgrimage, as cultural heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This Islamic Centre is drawing millions of pilgrims throughout the year.

Ashenda, a girls and young women’s festival celebrated in northern Ethiopia among Orthodox Christians, and Sof Omar Caves are included in the list, the Minister also said.
