LONDON, UK - A study by holiday comparison site My Late Deals has revealed that many young adults are still going on holiday with their parents and expect their parents to pay for the trip.
Almost half (44.9%) of British people aged between 18-34 have taken a holiday with their parents since turning 18 and almost a quarter (24.4%) expect their parents to pay for or at least supplement the trip, according to new research.
Females are choosing to go on holiday with their parents more than their male counterparts with 48.8% of females admitting they have been on holiday with their parents compared to 41.2% of males.
Young adults in Northern Ireland are the least likely to take a trip with their parents.
Females are also more likely to expect their parents to pay for or supplement the trip and when broken down by country, those living in Wales are more likely to expect financial support.
Why do young adults holiday with their parents?
  • 41.1% of the adults surveyed by holiday comparison site My Late Deals said they would go on holiday with their parents as they enjoy spending time with them.
  • 12.2% were motivated by the location and said they would only holiday with their parents if they wanted to visit the destination their parents were choosing to visit.
  • 4.3% said they would only holiday with their parents if they had no one else to go on holiday with.
  • One in 5 young adults are financially motivated to go on holiday with their parents.
  • 10% explained that they would go on holiday with their parents if the holiday was totally free.
  • 5.3% said that they would go on holiday with their parents as their holidays are more lavish and outside their budget.
  • 4.8% explain they just can’t afford a holiday otherwise.
  • 22.3% would point blank refuse to go on holiday with their parents.
Looking to the future
When questioned further about going on holiday with parents, 19.6% admitted to having a holiday with their parents booked for later on this year.
