In conjunction with the 30th World Hemophilia Day (WHD) the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) announced that it has been selected as the ‘venue of choice’ to host the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) 2020 World Congress.
The Centre also supported WHD by hosting a blood donation drive and highlighting the importance of the work WFH and national associations, including the Hemophilia Society of Malaysia (HSM), are doing for the bleeding disorders community via its social media and other communication channels.
According to the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor, “We are honoured to have won this prestigious event and are excited to be partnering with WFH to make this important congress as successful as possible. We are delighted to support WHD and commend both WFH and HSM on their efforts to increase awareness of hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders, as this helps improve diagnosis and access to care for the millions who remain without treatment.”
Elaborating on the WFH 2020 World Congress destination choice, Jeremias Rodriguez CMP, Director, Congress & Meetings, World Federation of Hemophilia, shared, “We are excited to say that our congress will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The WFH encourages the community to come to the city in 2020 for a fantastic WFH World Congress. The city was selected for many reasons including the fact that it is an exciting business centre and has a well-earned reputation as being a welcoming and friendly city. English is also widely spoken in Kuala Lumpur, which will make it easy for our delegates to get around and enjoy the local culture. Another benefit for our delegates is the city’s well-developed infrastructure and the fact that it’s only 30 minutes by train from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the city.”

“Another key factor in our decision to come to Kuala Lumpur is that it is home to the Malaysian Hemophilia Society - an organisation that has worked hard towards the WFH vision of treatment for all. All of these reasons make Kuala Lumpur an excellent destination for the WFH 2020 World Congress and the bleeding disorders community,” added Rodriguez.
To celebrate WHD – themed “Reaching Out: Connect To Your Community”, HSM organised a Fun Walk at the Riverwalk-Kongsi Square in Ipoh, Perak on 14 April 2019 from 7.00am to 3.00pm.
According to Taqrir Akramin Khalib, President, HSM, “Close to 500 participants including general public, doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, patients and their family members, participated in the walk and experienced the broad range of interesting topics about hemophilia which were presented to raise awareness and enhance the knowledge of disease, treatment, care and quality of life for all patients with hemophilia. We are looking forward to working hand-in-hand with WFH to make the 2020 World Congress the best and most successful event yet!”
