The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) has been chosen to host the International Conference on Coordination Chemistry (ICCC) in 2026. Organisers successfully bid against Moscow and Brisbane to bring the conference to Dublin. It is expected to attract up to 1,500 delegates to the city.
The biennial International Conference on Coordination Chemistry (ICCC) is the first event The CCD has confirmed for 2026.
This conference is one of the longest standing and most prestigious on the international chemistry circuit, with delegates set to attend events at both The CCD and Trinity College Dublin, bringing over €2m to the Irish economy.
The Dublin bid was headed by Professors Sylvia Draper (Trinity College Dublin), Andrea Erxleben (National University of Ireland, Galway), Grace Morgan (University College Dublin) and Stuart James (Queen’s University Belfast).
Talking about what this means for inorganic chemistry research in Ireland, the Chair of the Organising Committee, Sylvia Draper said, “This bid is a testament to the cooperation and resilience of the Irish Chemical Research Community.” She also commented, “The success of this bid will raise the profile of coordination chemistry in the minds of the public and national funding bodies, and demonstrate in a very real way, how third level institutions are creatively building this country’s global network in a post-Brexit economy.”
Stephen Meehan, Chief Executive of The CCD said, “We are delighted to be chosen as the host venue for ICCC 2026, our first event confirmed for that year. This is a great win for Dublin and The CCD, with a forecasted €2m contribution to the local economy. We look forward to welcoming the inorganic chemistry community to the venue. “
The CCD beat off stiff competition from other international venues to secure the event. They worked alongside members of Keynote PCO, who will manage the conference in 2026, Fáilte Ireland and the Dublin Convention Bureau who helped to support the bid effort.
